Ramblers

Welcome to Camp!

Project Kindred is an eight-year program that starts with a week at Camp Kindred - an intentional community of children of different racial and economic backgrounds. We create a safe environment where children separated by segregation can build meaningful and enduring relationships, and we have tons of fun while we’re at it!

Our day starts with “Adventure Time.” Campers will learn how to canoe, shoot a bow and arrow, play capture the flag, and design new creations in our "makerspace." There will also be time every day where the whole camp comes together for immersive all-camp games like "Timewarp," "Extreme Minecraft," and "Bug Hunt."

Our campers also participate in "Kindred Time" a few times every day. During this time campers will connect with their cabin mates, share insights about their experiences at camp, and learn to closely listen to the stories of others.

Safety First

Nothing is more important than the physical and emotional safety of our campers!

Low Ratio

Training

quality

We maintain a 1:4 staff to camper ratio. This low ratio ensures that all campers are under constant supervision. It also allows cabin leaders to pick up on issues a camper may be having and address those issues quickly.

Our staff undergo intensive training in CPR, First Aid, building emotional safety for children, preventing bullying, and more. There is also a Registered Nurse or EMT onsite 24/7.

Our camp is hosted at an American Camp Association accredited facility, which requires compliance with over 300 health, safety, and program quality standards.

FAQs

Who Are The Staff?

Project Kindred staff are youth development professionals. They all come with vast experience and a passion for working with young people. Some are Milwaukee Public School teachers, others are school social workers or counselors, some are after-school program leaders. We maintain a 1:4 staff to camp ratio. All staff participates in a week of training covering inclusive practices, ensuring emotional safety, CPR and first aid, and more.

What Does It Cost?

To ensure equitable access, families simply choose their own price for our programs. When you register online, you’ll choose between 10 different price options, no questions asked. Please just choose the option that works best for your family. The higher price options include a donation to help cover the cost for another family. All campers receive the same high-quality experience, regardless of the price you choose.

Where Will We Sleep?

Participants stay in comfortable cabins with bunk beds for most programs. Those going on camping trips or expeditions will sleep in tents in warm, comfortable sleeping bags (provided by us). Some buildings have attached bathrooms, others have a central bathhouse a short walk away. Our staff stay in the same building as the participants to ensure proper supervision.

What Will We Eat?

We serve hot, delicious, nutritious food for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day. That might include an egg bake or pancakes, hot dogs, sandwiches, tacos, spaghetti, and more. We can accommodate all dietary needs and restrictions. There’s always extra food available when you’re hungry, and we provide two scheduled snacks per day. Those going on camping trips and expeditions will prepare their own delicious meals on camp stoves or over the campfire.

Who Else Will Be There?

At camp, you will see campers from grades 5th-12th. While you will be there the whole week, these different grades will be in and out of the camp on their own adventures.
